The National Examination Board (NEB) has officially published the Class 12 result for the year 2081. This year’s results have brought a mixed wave of emotions; some students are celebrating high GPAs, while a large number received NG (Not Graded).
Let’s take a closer look at the overall performance of students across Nepal.
More than 1.5 Lakh Students Got NG
A total of 1,53,882 students received NG, which means they couldn’t pass in one or more subjects. NG stands for “Not Graded,” and it shows the number of students who will now have to wait for re-exams or improve their grades through other options.
This figure has created serious concern, especially among students and education experts.
Province-Wise Breakdown of NG

Here’s how many students received NG in each province:
- Bagmati Province – 36,865 students
- Lumbini Province – 29,321 students
- Koshi Province – 24,978 students
- Madhesh Province – 23,333 students
- Sudurpaschim Province – 16,607 students
- Karnali Province – 12,679 students
- Gandaki Province – 10,103 students
Bagmati Province recorded the highest number of NGs, followed by Lumbini and Koshi.
English Is Still the Most Failed Subject
Out of all subjects, English turned out to be the most challenging. This year, 66,275 students got NG in English alone. This shows that many students are still struggling with this subject, and more focus on language education is needed.
Number of Students Who Scored 4 GPA

Despite the high number of NGs, there is also a group of students who have performed excellently. This year, 13,503 students managed to score a perfect 4 GPA.
Here’s the province-wise distribution of students who scored 4 GPA:
- Bagmati Province – 8,685 students
- Koshi Province – 1,399 students
- Lumbini Province – 1,542 students
- Gandaki Province – 1,151 students
- Madhesh Province – 403 students
- Sudurpaschim Province – 291 students
- Karnali Province – 70 students
Bagmati again leads the list with the highest number of top scorers.
GPA Distribution of Students
Here is the overall breakdown of how many students scored in different GPA ranges:
- 4 GPA – 13,502 students
- 3.60 GPA – 55,896 students
- 3.20 GPA – 94,268 students
- 2.80 GPA – 69,812 students
- 2.00 GPA – 8,964 students
- Exactly 2 GPA – Only 23 students
These numbers show that a majority of students are performing in the middle range.
Overall Pass Percentage

This year, 61.17% of the students passed the Class 12 exams. That means nearly 4 out of 10 students either failed or got NG in one or more subjects. While the pass rate is decent, the high number of NGs has raised concerns.
15 Students’ Exams Canceled
NEB has also canceled the exam of 15 students due to cheating. These students were found violating exam rules, and their results have been voided. It’s a reminder that fair practice is the only way forward in academics.
