Renowned Nepali mountaineer Nirmal “Nims” Purja, who created world history by climbing all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters, has officially entered Nepali politics. He is contesting the House of Representatives election from Sankhuwasabha as a candidate of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
Globally known for his record-breaking “Mission 14/7,” Purja carried Nepal’s flag to the world’s highest mountains in an unprecedented achievement. Now, he says his mission has shifted from the Himalayas to national service through Parliament.
RSP has nominated Purja citing his strong leadership, discipline, and proven ability to deliver results under extreme conditions. The party believes his global exposure and problem-solving mindset can bring fresh energy to Nepal’s lawmaking process.
Following the announcement, social media has been flooded with reactions. Many have welcomed his “summit-to-parliament” journey, calling it inspiring, while others see his entry as a positive step toward bringing achievers from outside traditional politics into governance.
Nims Purja’s candidacy from Sankhuwasabha is expected to add excitement and public interest to the upcoming parliamentary election.
