NSC Ordered CAN to Suspend NPL 2025 for Investigation

The National Sports Council (NSC) has ordered the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) to suspend the upcoming Nepal Premier League (NPL) 2025. Why? Because complaints were filed with the CIAA (the anti-corruption authority of Nepal).

 Reason Why NSC Suspended Nepal Premier League 2025

The investigation by the National Sports Council (NSC) started after two complaints were submitted to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA). The complaints mentioned issues with the tender process before the tournament started and other concerns after the season ended.

Two complaints were filed with the CIAA (the anti-corruption authority of Nepal):

The first complaint came before the first season even started — it was about a possibly illegal tender (contract) process.
The second complaint came two months after the first season ended.

According to NSC, CAN cannot proceed with any NPL-related operations until the investigation concludes and the report is officially submitted to the CIAA. This directive raises uncertainty about the future of NPL 2025, potentially affecting players, franchises, and sponsors.

CAN has yet to issue an official response.

Nepal Premier League Success

The first Nepal Premier League (NPL) was held from November 30 to December 21, 2024, in Kirtipur. It had 8 teams and many exciting T20 matches. Famous players like Shikhar Dhawan, Martin Guptill, and James Neesham played along with top Nepali cricketers. Janakpur Bolts won the first match and later became the champion by beating Sudurpaschim Royals in the final.

The tournament was a big success with huge support from fans and sponsors. Lahiru Milantha scored the most runs, and Scott Kuggeleijn and Lalit Rajbanshi took the most wickets. People called it one of the best cricket leagues outside the IPL. It gave a great platform for Nepali players to learn and shine.

What did President Chatur Bahadur Chand say?

CAN President Chatur Bahadur Chand say they will hold a board meeting at the end of July to review the situation. He added, “I don’t see any reason to halt the NPL,” and promised that season 2 will be even better.

For now, NPL 2025 is on hold until the investigation committee completes its report and shares it with CIAA and NSC.
