History was made in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) today as the Biratnagar Kings absolutely destroyed the previous record for the highest team total, posting a monstrous 220 runs for 6 wickets against the Pokhara Avengers!
The previous NPL record, according to available information, was 193/8 by the Biratnagar Kings themselves (against the Lumbini Lions in the 2024 season), meaning they didn’t just break the record, they shattered it by 27 runs!
Key Moments That Built the Record Score:
- Guptill’s Blast-Off: The innings was launched by legendary New Zealand opener Martin Guptill. He started firing immediately, hitting boundaries and sixes to set a rapid pace.
- Lokesh Bam’s Power Show: Guptill found a brilliant partner in Lokesh Bam. The two built a massive second-wicket partnership that flew past the 100-run mark. Bam scored a sensational 80 runs off 44 balls, showing incredible power hitting.
- Guptill’s Fifty: Guptill himself reached a spectacular half-century, eventually falling for 61 runs off 35 balls. The 132-run stand between him and Bam was the engine of the Kings’ record total.
- No Stopping the Flow: Even after the big wickets fell, the Kings’ middle-order batsmen maintained the aggression, ensuring the run-rate never dropped and pushing the total far past the old record and into the 220 zone.
The Pokhara Avengers bowlers were left with nowhere to hide as the Kings’ batsmen launched an all-out attack from start to finish. This score of 220/6 sets an intimidating target and marks a new benchmark for batting excellence in the NPL!
