The Pokhara Avengers secured a dominant eight-wicket victory over the Chitwan Rhinos in the 27th match of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground (TU Ground) today. Despite both teams already being out of the playoff race, the Avengers put on a commanding performance to finish their league campaign strongly.
Rhinos’ Batting Struggles
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, the Chitwan Rhinos’ innings got off to a disastrous start, losing three early wickets for just seven runs. Top international batsmen Arjun Saud and Ravi Bopara were dismissed cheaply. A steadying partnership of 38 runs between Saif Zaib (17) and Dev Khanal helped stabilize the ship. Khanal top-scored for the Rhinos with a resilient 35 runs off 41 balls.
A late flourish from debutant Alpesh Ramjani, who hammered an unbeaten 33 runs off 22 deliveries, helped push the Rhinos to a respectable total of 120/6 in their allotted 20 overs. For the Pokhara Avengers, the bowling attack was led by Dhananjaya Lakshan, who claimed 3 wickets for 20 runs before an unfortunate injury forced him off the field.
Avengers’ Commanding Chase
In pursuit of the modest target of 121, Pokhara Avengers’ star opener Adam Rossington took charge. He combined with Arjun Kumal for a match-winning 100-run opening partnership, which effectively sealed the victory.
Rossington, the tournament’s leading run-scorer, played a commanding knock, hitting 65 runs off 48 balls, including four fours and five sixes. Though he fell in the 15th over, Kumal anchored the chase perfectly, remaining unbeaten with 43 runs off 53 balls. The Avengers comfortably reached the target with two balls to spare, finishing at 121/2 in 19.4 overs.
This win secures the Pokhara Avengers a fifth-place finish in the league standings, while the Chitwan Rhinos are set to finish seventh after suffering their fifth defeat of the tournament.
